  • the nominal dimension and tolerance from the drawing — item by item, with the dimension number,
  • the measured result for every piece — numbers, not just a "pass",
  • the measuring instrument used — caliper, micrometer, bore gauge; with tight tolerances this matters,
  • identification — drawing number and revision, date, signature of the inspector.

Add material certificates — the mill document confirms the shaft was made from the material ordered, not from "something similar". For heat-treated parts a hardness confirmation is worth including too.

First-series acceptance step by step

  1. Agree the scope at ordering — which dimensions are critical, how many pieces in the trial batch, whether you want measurements with every delivery or only the first.
  2. Make the trial batch — with the target process, not "quickly"; otherwise the result says nothing about the series.
  3. Measurements and report — results travel to the customer with the pieces or before dispatch.
  4. Approval and freezing the process — after the green light, programs, tools and fixtures are archived and assigned to the part. From that moment every batch is made on the same set.

That last step is the heart of repeatability: follow-up batches are not "similar" to the first — they are made with an identical process, so series after series holds the same dimensions.

  • Measurement scope — measuring every dimension of every piece raises cost and adds nothing; you measure the critical dimensions.
